What's MUN

Model United Nations (MUN) is an academic simulation of the United Nations. In this simulation participants represent as foreign countries and participate in a simulated session of an intergovernmental organization, mostly the session in United Nations. Through the simulation, participants can learn not only international issues but also how to gather information, establish policies, communicate effectively, and do multilateral diplomacy as well.

At first the League of Nations was simulated in Harvard University in United States. After the World War II, the simulations of the League of Nations were transformed into Model United Nations following the establishment of United Nations. Today there are estimate of 200,000 students participating in Model United Nations around the world many of which in Europe and America, and more than 400 Model United Nations conferences are held in 35 countries.

Model United Nations was introduced to Japan by Ms. Sadako Ogata and she has spread this activity in 1980s. Now many students in Japan organize and participate in Model United Nations.
